my routine of reading the internationally placed periodical, Art Daily.org (The First Art Newspaper on the Net News since 1996), I was awakened to an article of the ArtPrize contest in Grand Rapids, Michigan and all that it entailed. I immediately plunged into entering ArtPrize eager to swim amongst the many artists in an ocean of unbounded creativity.

Venues started to respond mid-summer with the Annie R. Studio as one of many venues to choose from. They all seemed reasonable but the Annie R. Studio stood out in the crowd bringing the Ella Bullis Foundation to the forefront with its beautiful cause with their efforts in helping families of babies receiving neonatal intensive care. Always wanting to make a difference, I jumped at the chance & promised the venue to develop a painting specifically created for their show & cause.

Between then & now, in the heart of the Gulf Oil Spill, this summer, I had the choice to cancel, reschedule or remain booked for a One-Person-Show in the Santa Rosa Beach area of Florida. Although people in the area tried to remain positive during the catastrophe that was hitting their next-door neighbor beaches, I knew it wasn’t the optimum time to have an opening. Instead, I encouraged that the show must go on & the curator, Arix Zalace, & I wanted to look into areas where a percentage of the sales would go to a good cause. Realizing I could have rebooked, but again, I wanted to make a difference. I talked with a local animal refuge fund of the area & asked the gallery if we could both give a percentage to the “Alaqua Refuge Foundation” who was trained to help take care of animals after being rescued. The show with Amavida in Rosemary Beach, Florida successfully opened during the forth of July weekend & enlivened the area with artwork, music & fireworks.

Developing a new piece inspired by the Ella Bullis Foundation became my next creative effort in making a difference with my artwork. Brainstorming, I gave Annie R. Studio a title for the painting, “Cocoon”, based on my current series “An Homage to Nature” (www.nyaxe.com/dianenaylor) with portraits of natures smallest gemstones (berries, shells, leaves, flowers) layered with inscriptions in runes about nature from notable people (Wordsworth,Keats, J.F.Kennedy, Gandhi & more).

Realizing the urgent needs of our earth & the recent castrophes that have hit our atmosphere along with the Foundation to help the tender premature babies that are born on a lifethread, I wanted to create a painting showing the magic of ”mother nature” coupled with the purity of a child. With my niece & her husband (Jessica & Justin Schneiter) having recently birthed a fortunately healthy beautiful baby boy, Lexington John Schneiter, my great nephew became the main subject matter within the painting to be cocooned as a small premature baby nestled & cared for in nature.

The painting is set on the night of a full moon within a magical forest. Moonlight showers stream through the trees while dragonflies dart in indigo air. Fireflies dance in the shadows amidst butterflies that flock to the newborn baby cocooned in green leaves. The nestled child rests under a saffron colored mushroom whilst warm light beams from flowers upon him. An inscription in Runes run round the 1 1/2” raised surface of the painting reciting part of “A Faery Song” By E.T. Dillingham that can be decoded at the gallery.

The painting, “Cocoon,” I feel, derives the divinity of nature with the innocence & the miracle of life newborn.

We can help influence society & the children that will lead the world. As artists of today, we have a tremendous responsibility in how we affect our earth, its atmosphere & those around us. Why don’t we make a difference in helping others with our creativity & enlivening bliss while restoring our world for the future? It’s imperative to utilize the talents that your creator has given you to make a difference today for tomorrow.
For more information about this entry into ArtPrize copy & paste: http://www.artprize.org/artists/public-profile/4914

Buffa & & medieval music.

Quotes from Buddha, Ralph Waldo Emerson & Lao Tzu
are mixed with paintings by Diane Naylor, ceramic pods
by Elizabeth Shriver & colorful aluminum vessels by Louise Rauh.

The paintings reveal a microscopic view into a world
within nature. The ceramic sculptures represent
pods or seedlings to organic forms that give birth
to new foliage of creativity. The aluminum vessels
reveal veils of illuminating color with vibrations of
nature in cylindrical forms. The Labyrinth we create
is a path of form into birth or birth into form in
resurgence of glorification to Nature during a time
of recent earth catastrophes.

Set to music from the time of the High Middle Ages
just before the “The Great Famine” or the “Black
Plague that killed twenty million Europeans in six years,
a quarter of the total population and up to a half in the
worst-affected urban areas. It was during this period of
stress, paradoxically, that bore witness to creative social,
economic, and technological responses that laid the
roundwork for further great changes in the Early Modern Period.
The creators of this collaboration felt the earth has received
its own plague from the collective consciousness which
has created the more frequent catastrophes of the recent years.
For this reason the music selected from the medieval ages
is essential and relevant for our current exhibit as a reminder
earths plague.

The Labyrinth is our homage to earth’s beauty
to create feelings of peace & tranquility or
transcendence during chaos.

<br Diane and her puppy Buffa. Diane landed into Walton Beach and arrived to a friends house in Seagrove, Florida only to wake up to an oasis of white sand, tropical breezes, clear turquoise gulf waters.

From Seagrove Beach to further up the gulf to Seaside Beach , every home is two toned in an array of colors. Creativity is in abundance right down to the detail of naming the home...for example "Seas The Day." just to name one. "This is the kind of area any artist would dream to live or visit."explained Diane.

Up the way into the colorful town of Seaside is a breathtaking view of the ocean at Bud and Alley's, a local pub with a dance floor that frequents live bands on the week-end. On the second level of Bud and Alley's you can watch the surfers hang-ten on the waves or just mingle with the natives that frequent this popular spot with a cool beverage.

Venture across the street into the Seaside shops that have a european feel. The design of the town was created based on everything accessable by foot (based on the human, which is how the europeans have designed cities)rather than a town based on accessiblity by the auto(which most cities in the United States are based on). This town is unique amongst others with its flair of creativity to its friendly atmosphere.

Diane loves to research the galleries of the areas she visits and discovered a beautiful gallery named Albert F's, located at 209 Ruskin Place in Seaside. The Albert F's has everything from fine furniture, glassware and artistry such as hand sewn pillows, prints, paintings and sculptures. Albert F's is known for their professional design and is featured in many different publications for their interior design work.

After a casual conversation with the owner, Holly, who took a browse through her artwork from this website, Diane's sculptures caught the owner's eye. Diane was immeditately approached to be the featured artist for their Gallery for their Friday Artwalk. She pleasantly agreed and went straight to work on sculptures that week for the opening.

The artwalk was a hit. Holly placed several scrumptious appetizers & fine vino to entice the crowd while festive music was playing on the square just outside the gallery doors. The crowd was friendly and inquisitive about Diane's Animal Totems and whimsical garden sculpture.
She made two new garden sculptures while she was in Florida that were called "Fish Schticks."
Green and blue glass beads bubbled up their 3' sticks with one koi and one blow fish from an underwater dream. Diane didn't realize that she would be working on her vacation, but when a welcome mat appears for her, she is more than happy to create for the public eye.

Take a look at the movies posted here and also listed at youtube.com by entering "artistdiane" into their search engine at youtube.com Just a couple of short movies that are sure to entertain as well as give you a glance into an artist's world.
For more information about the Diane's artwork at Albert F's, you may call the Gallery at: 850.231.3546, or email Diane at info@dianesfineart.com. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Fiesta de Arte

Much Ado About Creativity...
That describes the Fiesta de Arte last Saturday night at the Hudson River Gallery. The evening went in a fashion of events from the professional dancing of Nora and Mark of Habeaus Corpus to the Performance Art of Deanne Wortman and the Poetry of Tony Ellis. The dancing sensation of Nora and Mark's fancy footworks moved faster than a hummingbirds wings & more in unison than a centipedes legs in unison. Deanne Wortman arrived in a lipstick red gown accessorizing with hand held tomatoes while "keeekeeing" for a visual and audible feast. One person commented that it was like "a Frida Kahoe painting that came alive. " The audience then transcended into silent stillness as the spiritual poet, Tony Ellis, recited his eloquent poetry. New paintings were added to the Gallery, some too fresh out of the oven yet to be framed. Placed on the wall like precious jewels set in a ring were, an enlightened frog, a man in a boat with dreams, an aware being that floats amongst the planets, a knitting-piano playing lady (that escaped the wall immediately) , and rock star - seahorse riding children that were commissioned. The show will go on until the Labor Day week-end. Plenty of time for those meandering to Iowa City for some r & r during the summer time to come to the Hudson for a glimpse of another world.

Dianes Art Exhibit

Diane will be exhibiting a new series of artwork titled
“Specimens: Artists & Muses” at the
Hudson River Gallery
538 S.
